Air Force Hosts Rival Colorado College With a MW Tournament Bid on the Line

Last Time Out
The Falcons remained .500 in conference play with a 1-1 weekend, as they defeated Utah State, 1-0, before falling to conference leader Boise State, 3-2. Against the Aggies, freshman Emiley Benner scored in the ninth minute, and that was enough in the Falcons' seventh shutout win of the season. Against BSU, the match was tied in the 85th minute before the Broncos scored to go ahead for good.
Win and In
Heading into the regular season finale, Air Force is currently sitting alone in sixth place in the Mountain West Conference standings with 15 points. This means that with a win, the Falcons will clinch a spot in the upcoming MW Tournament, held Nov. 5-9 in Boise, Idaho. Should AF lose to CC, who have 12 points, then the Falcons will be eliminated from postseason contention by virtue of a tie in the MW standings between the two teams, and the tiebreaker belonging to the Tigers. Finally, should the two teams tie, then AF will need some help, as a loss by SJSU (14 points) means they are in. If the Spartans win, then AF would need New Mexico (16 points) to lose, as AF owns that tiebreaker. The Falcons also own the tiebreaker over Wyoming (13 points).
Freshman Sensation
Freshman Lexi Romero could not have asked for a much better start to her career, as the forward leads the team, and MW Conference, with 14 goals and 33 points. She is also the conference leader in goals and points per game. Nationally, Romero is eighth in goals, and 10th in points, goals per game and points per game. In addition, she is the only freshman in the nation with 14 or more goals, and 33 or more points.
Multiple Team Milestones
After this past weekend's results, the Falcons reached a number of program milestones. First, the 10 wins are the most for AF since reaching 11 back in 1999. The five conference wins are the most for an AF team in MW play all-time (since 1999). Air Force has clinched a winning record, their first since 1999 and fourth all-time. The 34 goals scored as a team are the most since 2000, and the seven shutouts are the most since 2010.
Romero the Record Setter
Freshman Lexi Romero had a record setting weekend against New Mexico, Oct. 20, as she tallied her 13th goal and 31st point of the season, to break the AF single-season record for goals and points. Both were set by former All-American Tracy Healy back in 1993 (12 goals and 29 points). In addition, she scored her sixth game winning goal of the season, breaking the previous record of five set in 1994, also by Healy.
Katz The Brick Wall
Junior goal keeper Danielle Katz, who came into the season with just two games played and no starts, has been a force in net this season. Her efforts have helped AF to seven shutouts, which is the team's most since 2010, and the most for an individual keeper since Stephanie Jardine had eight in 1995. Katz now owns the record for GK shutouts since the program went Division I (1996).
Potent Offense
The Falcons so far have presented one of the most potent offenses in the Mountain West Conference. They currently rank first in the MW in points per game and scoring offense, second in total goals and total points, and third in assists per game. The Falcons' 34 total goals are the 51st most in the nation.
Up Next
Should the Falcons qualify for the MW Tournament, the quarterfinal game will be Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Boas Soccer Complex in Boise, Idaho. Kickoff will be either 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. MT depending on seeding.
