SCOUTING THE RAMS
Colorado State, ranked 14th in the latest coaches' poll, is currently 20-1 on the season and a perfect 10-0 in conference play. The Rams, who will host Wyoming on Tuesday night, have not lost since the second match of the season and hold the second-longest winning streak in the nation (19). Colorado State, which swept last weekend's homestand against San Jose State and Nevada, lead the conference in hitting percentage (.307), kills (13.49) and assists (13.03), while its league-leading overall opponent hitting average of .097 is ranked second in the nation.
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming, who will travel to Fort Collins on Tuesday before hosting Air Force on Saturday, is currently ranked second in the conference, with a 9-1 MW mark and an overall record of 14-7. The Cowgirls swept their opponents last weekend, taking 3-0 home wins over Nevada and San Jose State. Wyoming is ranked second in the conference in hitting (.254) and opponent hitting (.172), while being listed third in kills (13.07) and fourth in assists (11.93), digs (14.51) and blocks (2.59).
EARLIER THIS YEAR
Air Force dropped a pair of extra-set contests to Wyoming and Colorado State at the Academy during the first week of October. The Falcons took a set from the (then) 16th-ranked Rams – marking just the fourth time Air Force has ever taken a set from its in-state counterparts at the Division I level – just two days after a five-set comeback fell just short against the Cowgirls.
SERIES HISTORY
Air Force is currently 1-51 against Colorado State and 6-42 against Wyoming in the all-time series with the two programs.
UN-OFFICIALLY SPEAKING
Against Mountain West opponents, the Falcons are ranked among the top half of the conference standings in kills (fourth, 12.70), aces (fourth, 1.55), assists (fifth, 11.93) and opponent hitting (fifth, .208), while three Falcons – Alex King (fourth in digs, 4.33), Andi Ahlers (eighth in assists, 9.17) and Denise Ssozi (10th in kills, 3.15) are listed among the league's top 10 overall.
ONE FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS
Air Force went 5-5 during the first 10 matches of the Mountain West season – setting a new program record for the most wins during the first half of the conference season. The five wins better the previous mark of four that occurred during the 1999 season.
WIN AT THE PIT
In their first visit to Dreamstyle Arena (aka The Pit), Air Force claimed its first victory in Albuquerque since 2004 – and just its second all-time – as it swept the Lobos in straight 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 sets.
WHAT'S ON DECK
Air Force returns to the Academy next week for a pair of conference contests against San Jose State (Nov 14) and Nevada (Nov 16).
