
Women's Swimming & Diving Wraps Up Day One of Intermountain Shootout

The Falcons finished in the top three of all but two events
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team concluded day one of the Intermountain Shootout Friday evening, Oct. 4, at the El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of Colorado Mesa. After one day of action, AF leads host CMU, 114-74, while trailing BYU, 134-53.
As a team, after 10 events contested, the Falcons finished in the top three in all but two of them.
The day began with the 200 medley relay, as the squad of seniors Heidi Schellin and Esther Min, as well as junior Kylie Stronko and freshman Sefilina Maile, placed second with a time of 1:46.85. Maile then followed that up with a third place finish in the 200 free with a 1:53.67.
In the 400 IM, sophomore Alexandra Armbruster was AF's top finisher, clocking in third with a 4:39.92. Then it was Maile again, as she took second in the 50 free sprint with a 23.90. In the 100 back, Stronko took second in her signature event as she clocked in with a 57.07.
Over in the 1650 free, freshman Gina Jenkins had a successful debut, as she took second place with a 17:58.03. Finally in the 3-meter dive, freshman Gabby Peltier also made a good debut as she took second place with a final score of 231.80.
Action on day two of the Intermountain Shootout will continue tomorrow, Oct. 5, with a 10:30 a.m. MT start. There will be 11 more events contested throughout the day.
