
Women's Swimming & Diving Wraps Up Action at Intermountain Shootout

The Falcons had two event wins on day two
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team wrapped up action at the 2019 Intermountain Shootout Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, in Grand Junction. The Falcons defeated the host Colorado Mesa Mavericks, 233-160, while falling to BYU, 273-119.
In day two, Air Force captured their first two event wins on the weekend, while finishing in the top three in eight of the 11 events.
The day began with back-to-back runner up finishes, as the 200 free relay took second, followed by freshman Luci Lozano taking second in the 200 fly with a 2:10.70. Immediately after, sophomore Evelyn Johnson took second in the 50 breast to continue the streak.
After a couple of events, freshman Sefilina Maile earned the first event win of the weekend for the Falcons as she took gold in the 100 free with a 51.95. She was not done, however, as she took first once again one race later in the 100 fly with a 56.81.
The final runner-up finish for AF was in the 200 back, as junior Kylie Stronko finished with a 2:04.62. Meanwhile, on the diving board, freshman Gabby Peltier was once again the top finisher for AF, this time on the 3-meter, with a third place spot after a final score of 236.70.
The Falcons will return to action next Friday, Oct. 11, when they head to Texas to compete in the Rice Invitational. Action from the campus of Rice will take place all day over two days, Oct. 11-12.
