Men's Swimming & Diving Cruises Past Colorado Mesa & Mines

The Falcons won 12 of the 16 events contested
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2019-20 home slate with two commanding dual wins, 183-106 over the Colorado School of Mines, and 171-123 over Colorado Mesa, Friday evening, Nov. 1, at the Cadet Natatorium.
In the 16-event meet, the Falcons claimed gold in 12 of the events, including the two relays, two diving events, and eight individual wins.
Starting with the 200 medley relay, senior Zach Nelson, and sophomores Isaac Gwin, Andrew Limpert, and Corey Shepard took first. In the final event, the 400 free relay, AF also took gold as junior Erik Orr, sophomores Matthew Lattin and Wyatt Boswell, and freshman Wen Zhang took first.
Gwin was Air Force's biggest presence in the pool, as he also took home individual event wins in the 100 back, 100 free, and 200 IM. Lattin also had a successful day, claiming gold in both the 50 free and 100 fly. The other individual wins came in the 200 free by Zhang, the 200 fly by Limpert, the 200 back by freshman Gabriel Bartolomei, and the 500 free by sophomore Adam Grimm.
Finally, over in the diving well, freshman Brett Jenkins was the big winner, as he took gold in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Meanwhile, sophomore Jack Macceca placed second in the 1-meter, while junior Jack Zocher took silver in the 3-meter.
Air Force will be right back in action next weekend, Nov. 8-9, when they head down to Phoenix to battle WAC rival Grand Canyon. Start time on that Friday is set for 3 p.m. MT.
