Following an interception, Xazavian Valladay scored on a 27 yard touchdown run to make up the final margin. The Cowboys clinched it with an interception on Air Force's next drive. Air Force has 30 seniors that will be recognized this week before the game vs. Wyoming. The seniors have a 29-19 overall record and 18-13 mark in the Mountain West. The class could become just the second under head coach Troy Calhoun with multiple 10-win seasons with a win this week. HAMMOND EARNS MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Junior quarterback Donald Hammond III was named Mountain West offensive player of the week for his performance in Air Force's 44-22 victory at New Mexico last week.
Hammond had the best day of his career passing at New Mexico, connecting on 9-10 passes for career highs of 327 yards and four touchdowns. His 327 yards passing is the fifth most in Air Force history and most since Dave Ziebart threw for 339 yards against Wyoming in 1976. He is the first Air Force quarterback to throw for over 300 yards since Dee Dowis threw for 305 yards against Notre Dame in 1989 (30 years). He is the first Falcon QB to throw four TD passes in a game since Shaun Carney in 2006 against UNLV. The four TDs thrown are tied for the second-most in a game at Air Force. Along with his 41 yards rushing, Hammond accounted for 368 total yards, which is the sixth-most in Air Force history. His 90 percent completion percentage is the third best in a game (minimum 10 attempts) and the best since Tim Jefferson completed 90 percent (9-10) against Navy in 2011. His previous high for passing yards was 205 yards at Navy earlier this season. He has thrown for seven touchdowns in his last two games. Hammond recorded his ninth career 100-yard passing game and went over the 1,000 yard mark for the season. Hammond now has 1,165 passing yards and 12 touchdown passes this season. The 12 touchdown passes is currently seventh most in a season at Air Force.
