Air Force Rolls To 99-42 Win Over Johnson & Wales

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball was firing on all cylinders against Johnson & Wales, posting a 99-42 win Tuesday night at Clune Arena. The 57 point margin of victory was the third-biggest in program history and the 42 points allowed was the lowest in the Dave Pilipovich era.
The Falcons shot 62.7 percent from the field and 64.3 percent from three point range. Five Falcons reached double-figures in scoring with all 14 that got into the game scoring a point and pulling down a rebound.
Freshman Carter Murphy, whe entered the game scoreless for his career, led Air Force with 14 points off the bench. Murphy went 4 for 4 from three-point range and 2 for 2 from the free throw line. The Falcon bench, which scored 67 points, also got career-highs of 10 points and six rebounds from Isaac Monson. Junior Chris Joyce scored 12 points in 10 minutes and freshman Mason Taylor also scored 10 off the bench.
Senior Caleb Morris was the lone starter in double-figures for the Falcons, scoring 11 points. Morris was a perfect 3 for 3 from three-point range.
The Falcons jumped out to a 50-29 halftime lead after shooting 60 percent from the field in the opening half. The Falcons out-scored the Wildcats 22-6 in the paint in and 20-0 in points off turnovers and had a season-best 18-0 run to pull way. The Falcons also went 16 of 19 from the free throw line in the opening half.
The Falcons went on to out-score JWU 49-13 in the second half to pull away.
Andray Thomas led Johnson & Wales with 14 points. Brandom Romero added nine points.
Air Force's 57 point margin of victory was the most since a school-record 67-point win over Doane in 1997. The 42 points allowed surpassed the 43 points allowed to Regis in 2012.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Dec. 21 hosting Drake. Tip time is slated for noon MT.
