Maria Mettler Improves Program’s No. 3 Time at 5000 Meters

Mettler deleted more than 13 seconds off of previous best at Boston Opener.
BOSTON, Mass. – Recording a career-best time of 16:01.36, Air Force junior Maria Mettler improved her own No. 3 placement on the Academy's all-time standings this afternoon (Dec. 7), as she kicked off her indoor track season at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Opener in Boston.
The junior deleted more than 13 seconds off of her previous best time, as she finished 17th in a field of 78 runners inside Boston University's Track and Tennis Center – a venue that has now accounted for two of the three-fastest 5000-meter times in Air Force history. With her time of 16:01.36, Mettler finished 16th in the stacked opening heat that included two of the fastest 5000-meter times in NCAA history.
Air Force returns to action on Jan. 10, when it travels to Boulder for the two-day Potts Indoor Invitational.
