Women's Swimming & Diving Concludes Day One of MW Championships

Air Force had season-best times/scores in all three events
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team concluded day one of the 2019 Mountain West Championships, Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Falcon swimmers competed in two relays, while the divers competed for the 1-meter crown.
The two relays contested were the 200 medley relay, as well as the 800 freestyle relay. In both events, the Falcons took 10th place, but posted two season-best times.
In the 200 medley, the squad of senior Emma Strom, junior Esther Min, and freshmen Caroline Wittich and Lia Campbell, clocked in with a 1:42.38, marking the best time of the season. Meanwhile in the 800 free, senior Elisabeth Brechbuhl, junior Autumn Wolfgramm, freshman Emily Bardak, and Campbell turned in a time of 7:34.48, also a season-best.
On the diving board, junior Eve Fowler had a career-best effort on the 1-meter. The Virginia native qualified for the 'B' final, and won that group with a 271.85, good for ninth place overall. Her score was just 0.85 points away from tying the school record. Air Force's other point scorer in the event was fellow junior Kayla Wofford, as she took 21st with a 235.45.
After the first three events, Air Force is tied for ninth in team points with San Jose State with 92 overall.
The 2019 MW Championships continue tomorrow, Feb. 21, with five more events, including the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, 50 free, 400 medley relay, and the 3-meter dive. Action from Minneapolis will begin at 10 a.m. MT.
