Falcons Conclude Day One at WAC Championships

The Falcons finished third and fourth in the two relays contested
HOUSTON, Texas – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team concluded day one of the 2019 Western Athletic Conference Championships, Wednesday evening, Feb. 27, at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.
The Falcon swimmers competed in the 200 medley relay, as well as the 800 freestyle relay, while the divers competed for the 1-meter crown. After the first three events, Air Force sits in fifth place with 82 points.
In the opening event, the 200 medley relay, Air Force had its best finish of the day by taking third with a time of 1:27.73, the fastest time of the season for the squad of juniors Cole McAnany and Zach Nelson, as well as freshmen Aaron Pang and Corey Shepard.
In the 800 free relay, the group of sophomore Peter Lochmaier, and freshmen Isaac Gwin, Matthew Lattin, and Shepard placed fourth with a season-best time of 6:31.20.
Over on the diving board, sophomore Cole Armagost was the highest placer, winning the 'B' final and taking ninth with a 274.85. Finishing right behind him was freshman Jack Macceca with a 262.35, good for 10th place.
Day two of the WAC Championships continues tomorrow, Feb. 28, with five events, the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 3-meter dive. Action from Texas begins with prelims at 9:30 a.m. MT, and finals at 5 p.m. MT.
