Donna Borer debuted in eighth on the program's all-time standings in the discus throw.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Air Force sophomore Donna Borer impacted the program's record book this afternoon (March 22), as members of the Air Force's throwing squad opened competition at the 41st-annual Aztec Invitational in San Diego.
Borer recorded a career-best discus distance of 152'0" to debut in eighth on the Academy's all-time standings – and finish fourth in the 28-thrower event at the Aztec Sports Deck. The sophomore, who used that distance to lead the entire field after the first round of throws, improved her overall distance by nearly 10 feet. Classmate Addyson Smith also picked up a top-10 finish in the discus throw, as she recorded a career-best mark of 136'1" to finish ninth in her first discus event of the season.
Before collecting top-10 marks in the discus at San Diego State, the pair opened the day in the hammer throw competition, which was held on the campus of UC San Diego. Both throwers placed within the top-half of the 33-competitor event, as Smith finished 12th with a distance of 148'0" and Borer took 16th with a season-best mark of 144'2".
Victor Osinloye, the only member of the men's team to compete today, kicked off the day with a top-10 finish in the hammer throw at UCSD. The junior improved his personal distance in that event by more than 16 feet, as he recorded a distance of 179'10" to finish ninth in the 36-thrower field that included athletes from five nationally-ranked teams.
The rest of the Air Force team will join the throwers at the Aztec Sports Deck tomorrow (March 23) for the final day of action at the Aztec Invitational. Action begins at 9:00 a.m. (PT).
