Baseball's Comeback Comes Up Short at Pacific
3/26/2019 10:40:00 PM | Baseball
The Falcons had tying runners on in the late innings, but couldn't capatalize
Air Force was only out-hit by Pacific (13-11) by one hit, 7-6. Junior Ashton Easley led the way with a two-hit effort, while senior Daniel Jones added a two-run double in the three-run seventh.
On the mound, freshman Nathan Price has another stellar outing, as he retired all six batters he faced in two innings of relief work. He now has his ERA down to 1.29 over 21 innings, while limiting opponents to a .182 batting average.
The game was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings, as freshman starting pitcher Zach Argo stifled the Tiger bats, facing the minimum through four. In the fifth, Pacific broke the shutout with three runs on four hits to make it 3-0 in the middle innings.
They got two more in the sixth on a two run home run, opening up a 5-0 lead into the seventh. Air Force got the bats going in the seventh, as they tallied three runs, one on an RBI from sophomore Jonathan Imperial, the other two on the Jones double, to make it 5-3 with two to play. Despite getting some base traffic in the eighth and ninth, the Falcons were unable to scrape across the necessary runs.
These two teams will be back in action tomorrow, March 27, for game two of the series. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. MT.
