Texeira finished third on the high bar for the second-best individual NCAA finish in program history.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Air Force senior Lukas Texeira became the Academy's first-ever high bar All-American this evening (April 20), after finishing third on his signature event at the NCAA Men's Collegiate National Gymnastics Championships in Champaign, Illinois. Texeira, one of four Falcons to compete in the event finals, accounted for the second-highest individual finish in program history.
Texeira, competing in his signature event at the start of the fifth rotation of events at the State Farm Center, scored a 14.133 to take third in the overall standings. As one of only three gymnasts in the 44-competitor field to reach the 14-point barrier on the high bar, his mark stood through the final two rotations and Texeira finished the night with the Falcons' second-highest individual finish ever at the NCAA Championships – and the program's third top-five finish in the last six years.
With tonight's score, Texeira closed out a stellar Academy career with at least a share of 11 of the top-12 high bar scores in program history, including the record of 14.800 that he set during a winning performance at the conference meet earlier this month, and 15 of the program's 22 occurrences of 14.0 or higher on that event.
Sophomore Ethan Esval earned a pair of top-20 finishes in the event finals, as he tied for 11th on the still rings (14.133) and 20th on the parallel bars (13.266). Classmates Frankie Valentin and Scott McMurray also competed in tonight's finals, as Valentin finished 33rd on the vault (14.066) and McMurray placed 43rd on the pommel horse (11.100).
