
Falcons Open Action at Colorado Invitational

Nick Oesterling captured a first-place finish in the javelin throw, winning the event by 14 feet.
BOULDER, Colo. – Freshman Nick Oesterling captured a victory in the javelin throw this afternoon (April 5), as a handful of Air Force field athletes opened competition at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder. Overall, the Falcons combined for eight top-10 finishes among the three events contested
With a mark of 193'6" – a personal improvement of nearly nine feet, Oesterling won the 21-thrower event by almost 14 feet. Oesterling was one of two Academy freshmen to place within the top 10 of the overall field, as classmate Marshall Shults matched his career-best distance of 167'2" to finish seventh.
The men also earned a pair of top-10 marks in the triple jump, as freshman Lashawn Taylor and junior Anthony Davis both placed within the top half of the 16-jumper field. Taylor recorded a career-best distance of 44'9½" to finish fourth, while Davis posted a season-best mark of 44'0½" to take eighth.
On the women's side, the Falcons collected a pair of top-10 marks in the hammer throw, as sophomores Donna Borer and Meghan Carbiener recorded season-best marks to finish ninth (148'6") and 10th (147'2"), respectively, in the 24-thrower event. Freshman Taylor Cotton added nearly 15 feet to her distance in the javelin throw during a seventh-place performance (106'7") and senior Andrea Abel finished 10th in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 35'11¼".
The Falcons continue action at the Colorado Invitational tomorrow (April 6), beginning at 10:00 a.m. (MT).
