Gabe Martinez Named Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week

The senior batted .615 in the weekend series win over SJSU
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Air Force Academy senior infielder Gabe Martinez was named the Mountain West Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending May 18, the conference announced, Monday, May 20. The first baseman led the Falcons on offense in a 2-1 series win over San Jose State.
Martinez batted .615 (8-for-13) with eight hits, including a double and two home runs, seven RBIs, and four runs scored. This resulted in a 1.154 slugging percentage, as well as a .643 OBP. He was also perfect in 34 fielding chances.
In the 12-3 win over the Spartans on Friday, May 17, Martinez homered twice, marking the third two-home run game of his season. He also drove in a career-best six runners, which was a single game season-high for a Falcon this season. In the series finale, Saturday, May 18, Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
His efforts helped AF to a 26-26 finish to the season, including a 12-14 mark in conference play. With the win on Saturday, Martinez and his class of 2019 teammates finished with 107 total wins, making them the winningest senior class in program history. They also have the most conference wins of any AF baseball class, with 12 in each of the last four seasons.
