The Air Force Academy women's soccer team opens its 28th season of competition by playing host to the Siena College Saints, Friday, Aug. 23, followed by a Sunday afternoon contest against the Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi Islanders, Aug. 25. The two games at Cadet Soccer Stadium open what will be a five game homestand to start the 2019 season, and is all part of a 12 game home schedule.

2019 Falcons
Air Force returns 15 letterwinners and six starters from last season, while welcoming in 12 freshmen.
Air Force lost five primary starters from 2018, all who graduated. They include GK Jennifer Hiddink, forwards Taylor Cobb and Kaitlyn Cook, midfielder Hailey Laub, and defender Rafaella Bucur.
Season Openers
Air Force is 9-17-1 all-time in season openers. The Falcons are 9-13-1 all-time in home openers. Last season, the Falcons opened with a 3-0 loss to Colorado.
Team Captains
Senior midfielder Erin Speer and senior defender Kasey Stavig are Air Force's team captains for the 2019 season. Both have a multitude of experience for AF having played in over 50 games each.
Replacing an All-Timer In Net
Perhaps one of the biggest storylines heading into the 2019 season for Air Force is how the Falcons will replace one of the all-time greatest goalies in program history. Recently graduated goalie Jennifer Hiddink finished her career as a two-time all-conference team member, as well as the all-time leader in saves in MW Conference history. She finished her time as a Falcon second all-time in saves (353) and GAA (1.28), third in shutouts (14), and fourth in wins (17) and minutes (5414). Tasked with filling the gap will be junior Danielle Katz. Katz made her Falcon debut as a sophomore last season, appearing in two games. She logged 26 minutes and recorded one save.
Top Returners
Air Force's top returning scorer is junior midfielder Emma Nelson, who netted her two goals in the 3-0 win over Creighton. On defense, All-Mountain West Newcomer Team member sophomore Keelyn Osoba returns to the experienced back line. Osoba started 16-of-17 games for the Falcons and led all freshmen with 1,131 minutes played.
Falcons Picked 11th in MW
Air Force was picked to finish 11th in the 2019 MW Coaches Preseason Poll, as they received 29 points. Defending regular season champions Boise State were picked to win the Conference. The Broncos will host the MW Championships this season, which run from November 5-9.
Head Coach Larry Friend
Larry Friend (USAFA 1985) is 51-107-24 entering his 11th year as the head coach at Air Force. Friend is a 1985 graduate of the Academy.
At Least It's Not A Loss...
Air Force tied six matches in 2018, setting a new program record for draws in a season, with the previous season-high being four back in 2006. On the season, Air Force was one of three Division I women's soccer team with six ties, with the others being Army West Point and Montana. The six draws in a single season also ties a Mountain West Conference record, which has happened twice in the conference's 20 year history (New Mexico, 2008/San Diego State, 2004).
Opponent Connections
While Siena and Air Force don't have any connections on the field Friday, Sunday will see a handful of familiar faces for the Falcons and Islanders. Starting off, junior Emma Nelson will be reunited with former high school teammate sophomore Jaedyn Johnson. The pair attended Marian High School in Nebraska.
Three sets of players share hometowns, starting with AF sophomore Bella Colandrea and TAMU-CC junior Celia Hilsabeck both from McKinney, Texas, Fellow AF sophomore Micah Larkin and TAMU-CC junior Addison Urbanus both hail from Rockwall, Texas. Finally, AF junior Brittany Mahowald and TAMU-CC freshman Ana Recarte-Pacheco are both from Woodbury, Minn. All six players attended different high schools.
Thirdly, TAMU-CC has five players from the state of Colorado. Freshman Emma Gibbs and junior Siri O'Donnell are from Longmont, sophomore Reaghan Lang is from Fort Collins, junior Abby Deakin is from Broomfield, and freshman Kassie Rembisz is from Parker. Islanders assistant coach Hunter Nail is also a CO native, from Centennial.
21st Season in the Mountain West
2019 marks Air Force's 21st season as a member of the Mountain West Conference after being one of its charter members back in 1999. In 20 seasons, Air Force holds a 58-137-19 mark in conference matches.
