#20/20 Boise State Pulls Away From Air Force, 30-19

Air Force football (2-1, 0-1 MW) dropped a 30-19 Mountain West contest at #20/20 Boise State (4-0, 1-0 MW) Friday night in front of a crowd of 36,498 at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. In a game that was tied 10-10 at halftime, it was the Broncos that took control of the game in the second half to pull away with the win.
Air Force went toe-to-toe with Boise State early on. Both defenses held the offenses in check early, as the first quarter was played without a score.
Things opened up in the second quarter, as the Falcons struck first with quarterback DJ Hammond III running one in from eight yards out for the touchdown. Boise State came right back with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Hank Bachmeier to CT Thomas to tie it up at 7-7.
After a Boise State field goal, Air Force tied it up with a second-quarter ending 30 yard field goal by Jake Koehnke, to send the game into halftime tied 10-10.
Air Force took the lead with 6:29 to play in the third quarter on a 31 yard field goal from Koehnke to make it 13-10 Falcons.
Boise State then erupted for three straight touchdowns to jump ahead by 20 at 30-13. The Falcons rallied for a touchdown late in the fourth, as Hammond tossed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Geraud Sanders to make it 30-19 after the blocked kick. The Broncos would run out the clock to end the game.
The teams both accounted for 355 yards of offense. The Falcons rushed for 242 on the ground.
Senior fullback Taven Birdow led the Falcons with 67 yards on 18 carries. Hammond III added 62 yards on 12 carries and Kadin Remsberg ran for 59 yards on 10 carries.
Hammond III was 6-11 for 83 yards through the air, passing for one TD and one interception. Senior Isaiah Sanders replaced Hammond III to start the third quarter after Hammond suffered an injury late in the second quarter. Sanders went 2-for-2 passing for 30 yards and carried twice for five yards. Hammond would return to play, throwing the fourth quarter TD pass.
Bachmeier completed 19 of 26 for 263 yards for Boise State. Thomas caught five passes for 119 yards and Robert Mahone carried 13 times for 73 yards and two rushing TDs for the Broncos.
Air Force returns to action next Friday, Sept. 27, hosting San Jose State. Kickoff is 6 pm MT.
