Men's Soccer Opens Conference Slate Against Kansas City

Air Force men's soccer plays host to Kansas city, Saturday at 1 p.m., at Cadet Soccer Stadium
THIS WEEKEND: The Falcons open the Western Athletic Conference slate hosting Kansas City at 1 PM MT, Saturday (Sept. 28), at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The meeting will be Air Force's only match of the weekend.
THE SERIES: Air Force and Kansas City will be meeting for the 10th time in program history. The Falcons lead the series, 6-2-1, winning the most recent match, last season, on the road. Air Force is 4-0-1 when playing the Roos at the Academy, outscoring Kansas City, 16-6, in five Air Force home games. The teams have seen overtime periods on two occasions.
LAST TIME THEY PLAYED: Air Force Falcons opened the WAC schedule with a commanding victory over Kansas City, 4-1, in their first Saturday evening matchup of the season. The win marked Air Force's eighth-straight and Doug Hill's 100th-career win since taking the reins in 2007.
At the final whistle, Air Force dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Roos, 17-8. Austin Dewing and Tucker Bone led the squad with four shots apiece. The Falcons' superior defensive line made Andrea Seazzu's time in goal a bit easier as the keeper was only tested with two shots on frame.
UP NEXT: The Falcons travel to Texas for a pair of conference matches over the weekend. Air Force takes on Incarnate Word, Friday (Oct. 4), at 6 PM CT, in San Antonio. On Sunday (Oct. 6), the Falcons take the pitch against UT-Rio Grande Valley, at noon CT, in Edinburg.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: After a handful of midweek games to wrap up non-conference play, it is time for conference action as WAC games start this week. Kansas City and Air Force will be the first to kickoff with an afternoon game in Colorado Springs. UIW heads to Grand Canyon, UTRGV visits UNLV, California Baptist travels to Seattle, CSU Bakersfield heads north to San José State and Houston Baptist treks to Utah Valley.
WAC BY THE NUMBERS: Heading into WAC play, Seattle U leads the league in shots (131), shutouts (4) and corner kicks (58). UNLV has the lead in points (35), goals (12) and saves (43). Utah Valley is the leader in assists (13) while Kansas City, UT Rio Grande Valley and Grand Canyon are all tied for least goals allowed (6). GCU also holds the top goals against average (0.96).
Individually, CBU's Rafael Vacas Barba is the leader in shots (29). CSUB's Niklas Korber and UNLV's Bryan Martinez-Serrano hold the lead in points (9) with Korber tied with SU's Noe Meza and UVU's Blake Frischknecht for the lead in goals (4). Four players are tied for the lead in assists with three each while Meza and Frischknecth each have two game-winning goals to lead the league. UIW's Carlos Mercado has the low goals-against average (0.84) and also leads the league in save percentage (.840). UNLV's Lukas Betz is the saves leader with 30 while SU's Akili Kasim has four shutouts to lead the category.

The young Falcon squad put up a hard fight for the international-laden Omaha team, outshooting Omaha, 21-12, on the match, narrowly missing goal on several opportunities. Sophomore forward JT D'Emidio led the match with six shots, three on frame.
