The Falcons beat the Cardinals, 128-89
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 128-89 dual victory over the University of the Incarnate Word Friday evening, Jan. 10, at the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons won eight of the 12 events contested on the day. Overall, AF also had a top three finisher in 11 of the 12 events as well.
"Tonight's win was a total team effort," Head Coach Colleen Murphy remarked. "The team was charged with working on the little details of their races, and executing their race strategies so they are prepared for championship season. We are so proud of their effort and attitudes tonight after returning from an amazing training trip."
Starting with the 400 medley relay, the squad of junior Kylie Stronko, and seniors Heidi Schellin, Esther Min, and Autumn Wolfgramm took first overall. A couple races later in the 50 free, Min took first once again, in what ended up being a 1-2-3 sweep for AF as sophomore Lia Campbell and freshman Scarlet Friend took second and third.
AF also had a sweep in the 100 free, as Wolgramm, Campbell, and sophomore Ally Carlin took 1-2-3, respectively. In the 200 breast, Schellin did what she does best with a gold finish. AF also took first in the 200 fly, as sophomore Emily Bardak touched in first. In the final swimming event of the evening, the 400 free, Wolfgramm, Min, Campbell, and sophomore Dia Gawronski put a capper on a great day with a first place finish.
Finally, on the diving board, AF swept first in those as well, as sophomore Cristin von Schlag took first in the 3-meter, and freshman Gabby Peltier was first in the 1-meter.
The Falcons return to the pool tomorrow, Jan. 11, when they face UIW in day two of dual action. The meet will get underway at 11 a.m. inside the Cadet Natatorium.
