Air Force Men’s Tennis Earns A Pair Of Wins In Spring Opener

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis opened the 2020 Spring season with a pair of wins Friday at the indoor tennis courts. The Falcons defeated CSU-Pueblo 7-0 in the first match and Metro State 5-2 in the nightcap.

Against CSUP, the Falcons swept the doubles and won all six doubles matches in two sets.

The Falcons opened with three wins in doubles play. Jamie Bautista and Paul Hendrix defeated Cooper/Bleakley 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. Mack Galvin and Sean McKendree defeated Garcia/Abreu 6-4 at No. 2 doubles. Justin Waldman and Santiago Garcia defeated Silva/Finegold 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Hendrix downed Cooper 6-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Galvin defeated Garcia 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3, Waldman defeated Bleakley 6-3, 6-0. At No. 4, Bautista defeated Abreu 6-3, 6-0. At No. 5, McKendree defeated Silva 6-0, 6-1. At No. 6, Garcia defeated Finegold 6-2, 6-2.

Against Metro State, the Falcons rolled to the 5-2 win to improve to 2-0.

The Falcons opened with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to get the point. Bautista/Hendrix defeated McDermott/McDermott 6-2 at No. 1 and Jordan Azuma/Waldman defeated Besada/King 6-2 at No. 2.

In singles, Hendrix won at No. 1 over Martinez-Morilla 6-4, 6-1. Azuma won at No. 3 over Kijak 6-3, 6-3. At No. 4, Waldman defeated McDermott 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. At No. 6, Garcia defeated Ribera 6-2, 7-5.

Air Force returns to action Sunday, Jan. 19, hosting Southern Utah beginning at 11 am MT.
