The Falcons move to 13-4 in duals on the season
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team swept a tri-meet over Seattle University, 174-54, and Northern Colorado, 147-91, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, inside the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons are now 13-4 in duals on the season.
Overall, Air Force won 10 of the 13 events contested on the afternoon, while having a top-two finisher in all but one. On the weekend, AF won 21 of the 26 events overall.
"We really challenged our team this week and they rose to the opportunity," Head Coach Colleen Murphy said. "The team came into this weekend ready to race and work on execution of the details. They had great attitudes and put in amazing effort, and we are really proud of their performances across the board."
The day began with the 200 medley relay, as the squad of junior Kylie Stronko, seniors Heidi Schellin and Esther Min, and sophomore Lia Campbell took first. Later on in the meet, Min would take first in the 100 fly, Schellin in the 100 breast, and Stronko in the 100 back.
The final three individual wins came in freestyle events, with freshman Scarlet Friend taking first in the 50 free, senior Kelsey Linzmeyer in the 500 free, and sophomore Caroline Wittich in the 200 free. The 200 free was a 1-2-3 finish as well, with sophomore Emily Bardak and freshman Greer Johnson finishing just behind.
Finally, in the 200 free relay, senior Autumn Wolfgramm, Min, Friend, and Campbell put a capper on the weekend with a first place finish. Meanwhile, on the diving board, AF won both the 1-meter, with senior Kayla Wofford taking gold, and the 3-meter, as they swept the podium with sophomore Krystal Irwin, freshman Gabby Peltier, and Wofford taking 1-2-3.
"We are in a great place as a team and we are very excited for championship season!" Murphy added.
The Falcons will have the final swimming event of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Denver for the annual Colorado Sprint Championships. Action at the Cadet Natatorium will begin at noon.
