Wrestling Set to Host All Academy Championships

The Falcons welcome in six other service academies
26th Annual All-Academy Championships presented by USAA

THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team is set to host the 26th Annual All Academy Championships Presented by USAA, Saturday, Jan. 25, inside the East Gym. The Falcons will face off against six other military academies in tournament action beginning at 10 a.m. MT.

LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons fell in Big 12 dual action to No. 18 Northern Iowa, 28-12, Sunday afternoon, Jan. 19, inside Clune Arena.
Air Force earned three wins on the day, the biggest a pin from heavyweight sophomore Kayne Hutchison. It was his third dual win on the season and fifth pin. The other two wins were decision wins from senior 165 pounder Randy Meneweather and junior 197 pounder Casey Jumps.
LAST SEASON AT ALL ACADEMIES: Air Force crowned two champions, while taking second place as a team, in a highly successful All Academy Championships Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26, at Plumley Armory on the campus of Norwich University. Sidney Flores at 125 lbs. and Garrett O'Shea at 141 lbs. took home individual titles for the Falcons.
As a team, Air Force had eight of its ten wrestlers finish with the top three of their respective weight classes, including four who finished runner-up. In all, the Blue and Silver scored 99.5 team points to finish in second place, the team's highest finish since 2015.
ALL ACADEMY HISTORY: Saturday will be the 26th time the All-Academy Championship has been contested, and is the first time Air Force will host since 2011. Air Force has won five team titles (1999, 2000, '01, '02, and 2015). Navy has won the most titles with 15, while Army has won four and VMI one.
THE FIELD: The field of seven includes the Falcons, as well as Navy, Merchant Marine, Coast Guard, Virginia Military Institute, The Citadel, and Norwich. Army West Point has declined to attend this year's tournament.
NATIONALLY RANKED FALCONS: Coming into the weekend, Air Force has a pair of its wrestlers gaining recognition in the national polls. At 125 lbs., sophomore Sidney Flores is tabbed at 15th overall by WIN Magazine, while at 165 lbs., senior Randy Meneweather is ranked 27th overall by TheOpenMat.

PINS ON PINS ON PINS: After the first half NCAA Division I wrestling action, Air Force has been one of the most dominant teams on the mats when it comes to pinning opponents. AF has 37 pins against D1 competition, which is tied for the eighth-most of any other D1 team thus far
In addition, junior Cody Surratt has 10 total pins this season, eight of which are against D1 competition, which is good for the sixth-most in the country. The total time of his eight D1 pins is just 9:51.
NEXT UP: The Falcons hit the road for their first two road Big 12 duals of the season. First is against Utah Valley, Thursday, Jan. 30, followed by a showdown with Fresno State, Sunday, Feb. 2.
