WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross defenseman Frank Boie scored two goals as the Crusaders defeated Air Force, 3-1, in an Atlantic Hockey Association game Friday, Jan. 24, at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass.
Holy Cross (7-12-5, 6-10-3 AHA) scored the only goal of the first period as Boie's shot from the right point found the back of the net at 10:41. The Crusaders outshot the Falcons, 23-4, in the opening period.
After a scoreless second period, the Falcons tied the game just 2:14 into the third period. On the rush, Kieran Durgan gained the zone on the left wing and centered the puck to Max Harper. Harper netted his seventh of the season to tie the game at 1-1. With just over two minutes left in the third, the Falcons went on the power play. With 1:56 left in the period, the Falcons pulled the goalie for a two-man advantage, but were unable to find the equalizer. With one second left, Crusader Kevin Darrar scored an empty-netter to make up the final margin.
Holy Cross outshot Air Force, 42-17, in the game. The Falcons were 0-for-1 on the power play while the Crusaders were 0-for-2. HC's Matt Radomsky made 16 saves while Falcon sophomore Alex Schilling made a career high 39 saves.
"Give Holy Cross all the credit," head coach Frank Serratore said. "They came out and tried to knock us out right away. They got that first goal, but we kept hanging around and were just one shot away in the third period. When we tied the game, I really thought we might steal this one. It was very disappointing when they got that second goal, but again, give them the credit for getting it done. They are playing with a lot of energy and a lot of confidence right now."
Air Force (8-11-4, 8-7-4 AHA) and Holy Cross conclude the two-game league series on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 7:05 pm ET in Worcester, Mass.
