Emily Conroe of Air Force women’s basketball put up her fourth double-double of the season
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force fell the Mountain West's second-ranked team, San Jose State, 68-60, Saturday afternoon in Clune Arena. The Falcons drop to 4-16 on the season while the Spartans improve to 14-6 with an 8-1 mark in the league.
Air Force's team captains led from the front, highlighted by Emily Conroe's 17 points, 11 rebound performance for her fourth double-double of the season. Co-team captain Kaelin Immel put up a team-high 18 points in her sixth-straight double-figure scoring performance. The pair each added two assists and a steal to their stat lines.
Sophomore forward Riley Snyder came off the bench to put up a season-high four three-pointers, scoring all 12 of her points from beyond the arc, shooting 60-percent from deep (4-6). The Air Force bench outscored San Jose's bench, 20-9. Sophomore teammate Briana Autrey-Thompson picked off a game-high five steals and dished out a team-high three assists on the day.
San Jose State also had three players with double-figure scoring marks, led by MWC scoring leader Ayzhiana Basallo, who scored 20 on the game. Tyra Whitehead, a transfer out of Wake Forest, was the force multiplier, scoring 11 points and collecting 16 rebounds.
Air Force took the court with intention, racing out to a 7-0 lead while the Spartans missed their first eight attempts from the field. San Jose State's first bucket dropped at the 4:58 mark, followed up by a three-ball to bring the score to 9-5 in favor of the Falcons at the media timeout (3:50). The teams exchanged three-pointers and a bucket to end the quarter at 14-10 in favor of Air Force who was shooting 40-percent from the field while the Spartan shot 27-percent.
The Falcons opened the second quarter in a shooting lull, missing their first four attempts while SJSU went on a 5-0 scoring run to take a one-point lead. Emily Conroe, who was shooting 60-percent from the field at the time, reignited the Falcons with a three-pointer to cut San Jose's lead to 20-19 at the media timeout (4:32). The Spartans started to gain traction with a 6-2 scoring run out of the media break, giving them their largest lead of the game, 26-21. Riley Snyder ceased SJSU's momentum with a three-pointer to bring Air Force within two. In the waning seconds of the half, Spartans sunk a bucket to lead the Falcons, 28-24. Air Force turned the ball over eight times in the first half, six of which happened in the second quarter.

San Jose State responded with a 4-0 run which was then rebutted by Immel who drained her first three-pointer of the game. Snyder hit a crucial three-pointer to cut the Spartan's lead to 35-30 at the media timeout (4:58). Out of the break, Briana Autrey-Thompson drove the ball the rack to hit the tying bucket at 35 while the Spartans were on a three-minute field goal drought. After a few buckets scored at the line on both sides, San Jose State started to create distance with a 7-0 scoring run while the Falcons stalled out with five turnovers in two minutes. At the end of the quarter San Jose State led Air Force, 46-39.
The Spartans built their largest lead of the game out of the break, 49-39, but the Falcons were quick to respond with a 4-0 scoring run to come within six points, 49-43. The Falcons and Spartans took turns scoring into the waning seconds of the game with Air Force coming as close as three points to the lead but SJSU was able to fend off the Falcons' run, maintaining a six-point cushion over the Falcons until the final seconds.
Next up, The Falcons hit the road to take on Fresno State in last game of January, Wednesday (Jan. 29), at 6 p.m. PT/ 7 MT in Fresno, California. The Bulldogs currently sit undefeated atop the Mountain West Conference.
