SHU is in first place in the AHA while Air Force is tied for fourth
This Week - Air Force (8-12-4, 8-8-4 AHA) hosts 20th-ranked Sacred Heart (16-8-2, 13-6-1 AHA), Friday-Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1 in a two-game Atlantic Hockey series at the Cadet Ice Arena. Friday's game begins at 7:05 pm while Saturday's opening faceoff is at 5:05.

Scouting Sacred Heart - Sacred Heart is 16-8-2 overall and 13-6-1 and tied for first place in the AHA. The Pioneers won the Connecticut Ice Festival last weekend with wins over Yale and Quinnipiac. SHU defeated Quinnipiac, 4-1, in the championship game. Quinnipiac was ranked 17th in the USCHO poll and 13th in the Pairwise rankings. The Pioneers are 4-1-1 in their last six games. Since a 4-3 loss to Air Force in on Nov. 2, SHU is 12-4-1. Senior forward Jason Cotton leads the conference and is third in the nation with 17 goals (28 points). The Pioneers have seven players with 20 or more points in 26 games this season. Sophomore goalie Josh Benson leads the team with a 2.25 GAA and a .914 saves percentage. SHU leads the conference, and is second in the nation, with 3.92 goals per game and is second in scoring defense at 2.35.
Series vs. Sacred Heart - Air Force and Sacred Heart have played 47 times and the Falcons hold a 27-13-7 lead in the series that began in 2000. Air Force and Sacred Heart split a two-game series in November in Bridgeport, Conn. SHU beat Air Force 7-1 in game one. The next afternoon, the Falcons earned their first win of the season with a 4-3 victory. SHU is 4-1-1 against Air Force in the last six. The last five games, and 13 of the last 16 games in the series have been played in Connecticut. The last time the teams played at Cadet Ice Arena was Jan. 19, 2018, a 2-1 SHU win. The second game of the series was postponed due to a government shutdown. The last series played at the Academy was Feb. 24-25, 2017 and the teams split the series. The teams have played 20 times at the Academy and AF holds a 15-2-3 lead in those games.
