Women’s Tennis Downs Creighton, 5-2

Air Force women's tennis defeated Creighton 5-2 in a neutral-site dual at the Dillon Tennis Center at the University of Nebraska campus in Lincoln, Neb. The win lifted the Falcons to 4-1 on the season.

The Falcons opened by winning two of three doubles matches to get the doubles point. The duo of Meredith Jones and Kristin Kerrigan got the first win at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 win over Gener/O'Conner. Sydney Fitch and Alex Kuo dropped the No. 3 match to Benson/Epperson 6-3. The Falcons took the point as TJ Fumagalli and Nadeen Lieberman won at No. 1 over Krueger/Wilcox 6-4.

The Falcons won four singles matches on the evening.

Kerrigan got the first singles point with a win at No. 5 over Gabby O'Conner 6-1, 6-2. Fumagalli then won at No. 1 over Kate Krueger 6-1, 6-3 to give the Falcons a commanding 3-0 lead.

Meredith Jones dropped her No. 2 match to Emma Gener 6-2, 6-3 to get Creighton on the board. Sydney Fitch then won at No. 6 for the team-winning fourth point, a 6-4, 6-1 win over Meredith Benson. Abby Warner fell at No. 4 to Erin Epperson, 7-5, 7-5. Lieberman capped the night with a win at No. 3 over Sarah Wilcox, rallying back from an opening set loss 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.

"Its always good to get a win on the road against a Big East team such as Creighton," head coach Kim Gidley said. "Each match we are learning more about ourselves as a team and that's a good thing."

Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 1 against Nebraska. The dual begins at 9:30 am CT.
