Falcons fall at AIC, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – AIC scored a goal in each period for a 3-1 win over Air Force in the season-opener for both teams, Friday, Nov. 27, at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
Air Force (0-1 overall, 0-1 AHA) opened the scoring early in the first period. After winning a faceoff in the offensive zone, sophomore winger Keenan Lund carried the puck behind the net. His shot was redirected in front by Will Gavin for a 1-0 lead at 1:28. Late in the period, AIC tied the game when Luka Maver scored on a backhand shot from the slot at 18:06.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead late in the second period with a power-play goal as Tobias Fladeby scored on a one-timer from Chris Theodore at 15:46. AIC clung to the one-goal lead until late in the contest. The Falcons had a power play opportunity late in the third, but were unable to convert. Air Force pulled the goalie with 1:20 left, but the Yellow Jackets scored an empty-netter with 40 seconds remaining.
AIC (1-0 overall, 1-0 AHA) outshot Air Force, 25-16, in the game. The Yellow Jackets were 1-for-5 on the power play while AF was 0-for-4. Alex Schilling made 22 saves for the Falcons while Stefano Durante had 15 for the home team.
Air Force and AIC conclude the two-game league series on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 3:05 pm ET in Springfield, Mass.
