ABQ native Kelsey Owens paced the quartet to the sixth-fastest time in program history.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of senior Kelsey Owens, sophomore Grace Proesch, junior Aubrey Ridgeway and sophomore Michelle Roca combined for the sixth-fastest time in Academy history this afternoon (Feb. 14), as members of the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque.
The quartet clocked a time of 3:50.78 to finish second in their heat and ninth in the 25-team event. One other member of the women's team competed today at the ABQ Convention Center, as sophomore Brid O'Connell deleted nearly two seconds off of her previous best 800-meter time (2:15.54) to finish second in her heat and 16th in the full field of 48.
On the men's side, junior Greg Skage registered the second-best jump of his career (17'3½") to earn runner-up honors in the pole vault. The junior was one of three top-10 finishers in today's Elite section of that event, as classmate Mitch Lipe placed fifth with a clearance of 16'7½" and sophomore Ethan Gardner finished 10th with a height of 15'7¾".
Back on the track, the men's 4x400-meter relay of junior Zachary Dicken, junior Terrell Davis, junior Luke Zuluaga and sophomore Sean Geither combined for a season-best time of 3:14.64 to easily win their heat and finish fourth in the overall field. Dicken, who pushed the Falcons out to the early lead on the opening leg, added a season-best time of 48.16 in the seeded section of the 400-meter dash earlier in the day.
Junior Albuquerque native Aric Kedge rounded out the Falcons' list of top 10 finishers on Friday afternoon, as he clocked a time of 1:55.43 to finish eighth out of 25 runners in the 800-meter run.
The Air Force distance squad, which kicked off the Iowa State Classic earlier today in Ames, will continue action with several Invitational sections this evening, while members of the middle distance lineup will take to the Lied Recreation Center tomorrow (Feb. 15).
