Air Force women’s basketball sets program record with six single-season MWC wins, first-ever win in “The Pit”
ALBUQUERQUE - Air Force had a career night in the 79-66 win against New Mexico, Monday evening in Dreamstyle Arena. The Falcons secured their sixth Mountain West win for the most single-season league wins since joining Division I basketball in the 1996-97 season, improving to 8-20 overall with a 6-11 mark in the MWC. New Mexico drops to 14-16, 5-12 MW heading into their regular-season finale. Air Force held the lead from wire to wire, securing its first-ever victory in "The Pit".
Riley Snyder, who was said to be in her bag, scored a career-high 34 points for the most scored by a Mountain West player in league action this season. She knocked down a career-best six three-pointers (6-9 3fg) and shot 67-percent from the field (12-18 fg). She rounded out her stat line with four assists, two steals and two rebounds while shooting perfect from the free throw line (4-4). Snyder has two 30-point games this season, the second-most by any player in the Mountain West.
Air Force co-team captains Kaelin Immel and Emily Conroe led from the front, posting a double-double apiece to help guide the Falcons to victory. Immel scored 14 points while collecting a career-high 10 rebounds, posting a career-high four blocks and dishing out a game-high four assists. It was her first double-double of the season. Conroe, who scored 10 points and snagged a game-high 13 rebounds, notched her fifth double-double this season. Conroe recorded three assists and the duo snagged two steals each.
Sophomore point guard Briana Autrey-Thompson was the Falcons' second-leading scorer along with Immel, dropping 14 points with two assists and a rebound. She shot 55-percent from the floor (6-11 fg). Freshman duo Nikki McDonald and Allyah Marlett contributed with four steals and seven rebounds, respectively.
New Mexico was led by senior Asia Robertson who dropped 30 points on the night, 28 of which came in the second half. Senior teammate Jordan Hosey was the Lobos' second-leading scorer and top rebounder with 13 and six, respectively.
Air Force handily out-rebounded New Mexico, 44-28; however, both teams turned over the ball more than 20 times.
Air Force put on a display of dominance in the first quarter, outscoring the Lobos 23-12, while building as much as a 14-point lead. Riley Snyder led the Falcons with 10 points, shooting 4-6 from the floor and 2-3 from deep, while Air Force as a squad took 26 attempts from the floor, more than twice as many as New Mexico. The Falcons' defense was also prevalent in the opening quarter, forcing nine Lobo turnovers while the Air Force offense only coughed the rock up twice. Air Force was controlling the boards as well, grabbing 15 rebounds to New Mexico's seven.
The Falcons carried the momentum into the second quarter led by Snyder who scored nine points and totaled 19 at the halftime horn, shooting 64-percent from the floor (7-11) and 75-percent from beyond the arc (3-4). Air Force continued to snag the boards picking up 26 first half rebounds to UNM's 14. Emily Conroe and Allyah Marlett were controlling the paint with game-high six rebounds each. Kaelin Immel had five rebounds in the first half. The Falcons, who only had two turnovers in the first quarter, turned the rock over six times in the second while the Lobos committed five second-quarter turnovers, 14 on the half.

As a squad the Falcons shot 57-percent from the field (10-18) and 50-percent from deep (3-6). New Mexico attempted to rally in the fourth quarter, going on a 12-point scoring run and coming as close as eight points with just two-minutes remaining in regulation. Air Force's top scorers stepped up and quelled the uprising, highlighted by Snyder's sixth three-pointer with 1:14 remaining to take the wind out of the Lobos' lungs. The Falcons' sealed the deal with a 13-point lead, 79-66, and their fourth league win in the month of February.
