The Falcons were picked to finish second in a coaches poll
HOUSTON, Texas – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team is prepped and ready to compete at the 2020 Western Athletic Conference Championships, held on the campus of the University of Houston at the CRWC Natatorium, Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 26-29.
Each day of the championships will be streamed live, with the prelims on the WAC Facebook page, and finals on the WAC Digital Network. Live results will also be available.
The Falcons concluded the 2019-20 regular season with a 9-4 dual record, while going 4-1 in its conference meets.
Air Force is seeking its first WAC title since winning back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017. The Falcons finished in fourth place at last season's championships.
The Blue and Silver are in a good spot to contend for that title, as they have numerous swimmers and relays that sit near the top of the WAC rankings. AF has 15 individual swimmers with top-five times in events, including the top seed time from sophomore Isaac Gwin in the 100 back, senior Zach Nelson in the 100 and 200 breast, and sophomore Adam Grimm in the 400 IM. Also in the relays, all five squads have top-five times in the conference.
In a poll of conference coaches, Air Force was picked to finish second after receiving 28 points, and two first place votes, in the poll. UNLV was picked as the favorite with 35 points and five first place votes.
The four-day championship opens on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 9:30 a.m. MT when the league's divers compete in the one-meter springboard prelims. In the evening session, starting at 5 p.m. MT, the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay will occur, as well as the finals of the one-meter springboard.
