
Brandon Koch named AHA Rookie of the Month

The freshman defenseman had nine points in eight games in January
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force freshman Brandon Koch was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for January.
Koch, a defenseman from Hastings, Minn., scored nine points (3-6-9) in eight games in the month of January, the most by any AHA freshman and AHA defenseman. He had a point in five of the eight games and had at least one point in every series. Koch was the AHA player of the week on Jan. 21 after having four points in the sweep of Niagara. He had a career-high three points (1-2-3) on Jan. 17 vs. Niagara. Koch closed out the month with two assists against Sacred Heart, Jan. 31.
Koch's four goals this season are tied as the fourth most in the nation by a freshman defenseman. His three PPG are tied for the national lead among all freshmen defensemen while his 14 points are tied for seventh. His four goals and 14 points are the most by an AHA freshman defenseman in conference games this season.
He is the first Falcon to earn a conference monthly award this season.
Air Force (8-14-4, 8-10-4 AHA) travels to Buffalo, N.Y., for a two-game Atlantic Hockey series against Canisius (7-15-4, 6-10-4 AHA), Friday-Saturday, Feb. 7-8. Friday's faceoff is at 7:35 pm ET while Saturday's game starts at 4:05 pm ET.
