Brian Waschak claimed the third-highest GPA in the conference.
WOODLAND, Calif. – An Academy-best eight members of the Air Force men's gymnastics team earned All-Academic Scholar-Athlete honors from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, executive director Al Beaird announced this morning (April 3). Highlighted by seven first-time recipients, the Falcons easily surpassed the previous program record of five (2002, 2017).
Junior Frankie Valentin (3.18 GPA) captured the league's academic award for the second-straight year, becoming the 14th gymnast in program history to earn the honor multiple times in a career. Valentin was joined on the All-Academic Scholar-Athlete list by classmates Brandon Bzoskie (3.08), Allen Shadan (3.01) and Brian Waschak (3.86), as well as the sophomore quartet of Beckett Andersen (3.39), Noah Everett (3.58), Nathan Reed (3.19) and Alex Schechtman (3.60).
To be considered a MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athlete selection, student-athletes must hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore with one full academic year completed at the member institution, and have competed in 50-percent or more of the institution's competitions.
Air Force's eight selections were ranked second amongst the league schools, as a total of 33 gymnasts received academic honors from the MPSF during the abbreviated 2020 season.
