The Air Force recently selected Col. Otis Jones to be the Air Force Academy's next Vice superintendent.
Jones is scheduled to arrive at the Academy during the summer and replace Col. Houston Cantwell, Vice Superintendent since July 2018.
Jones, a 1995 Academy graduate, will come to the Academy from Yokota Air Base, Japan where he currently commands the 374th Airlift Wing.
The Vice Superintendent supports the three-star general Academy Superintendent in directing military training, academics, athletics, and character development programs leading to a bachelor's degree and commissioning as a second lieutenant into the United States Air or Space Force.
Regarded as one of the all-time greats of USAFA basketball, Jones is the second-highest scorer in Air Force Academy basketball history, with 2,003 career points, and was a finalist for the 1995 Naismith College Player of the Year award. Jones, who played guard, averaged 25.5 points per game as a junior in 1993-94 and 23.9 ppg as a senior in 1994-95. Those totals rank third and fourth for highest scoring averages in a season at Air Force.
