The Falcons once again took two-of-three duals
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the weekend with another two-out-of-three showing in a quad meet, Saturday, Jan. 9, inside the Cadet Natatorium. AF defeated Colorado Mesa, 123-101, and the Colorado School of Mines, 172-46, while falling to Northern Colorado, 120-104.
"This team truly showed fortitude and grit this weekend," Head Coach Colleen Murphy said. "With nine swimmers out of the meet, and some of our divers at a meet in Utah, every girl stepped up and raced hard. I am so proud of their teamwork and unity in such a great meet."
The four teams participated in 12 events on the day. AF claimed victory in three of them, while taking a top-three finish in eight. That included four runner-up finishes.
Leading the way once again were sophomore Sefilina Maile and senior captain Kylie Stronko, as the pair had wins in the 100 free and 200 back, respectively. Both Maile and Stronko finished about a second ahead of second place.
The other event win came in the opening race of the morning, as the squad of Stronko, sophomore Kimmy Woolfenden, freshman Allana Clarke, and Maile took gold in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:49.01.
Finally, the runner-up finishes came from junior Lia Campbell in the 50 free, freshman Kendra Joachim in the 500 free, sophomore Anna Kemper in the 3-meter dive, and the 200 free relay squad of freshman Anna Webber, Maile, senior Lexie DuChene, and Campbell.
The Falcons will be back in action next weekend for another two days of competition, Jan. 15-16. AF will face off with MW rival Wyoming on Friday, and both the Cowgirls and BYU on Saturday.
