Air Force dominated the offensive possessions, taking a season-high 26 shots on the match. The Falcons put 11 shots on target putting Cougar goalie Joe Bowles to task. Bowles made seven saves on the day. Senior Air Force midfielder Tristan Trager led the offense with two goals on a season-high eight shots, six of which were on target. Senior teammate Lathan Spadafora, who scored the other pair of goals, took four shots with two coming on frame. Sophomore forward Thaddaeus Dewing took five shots.
The Falcon defense, responsible for a second-straight shutout, put the shackles on the CSU offense, holding the Cougars to just six shots on the match and just two in the second half. Air Force goalie Kainoa Likewise recorded three saves in his second shutout this season.
Air Force took 14 shots in the first 45 minutes but Spadafora was the only one to register a goal with a strike in the 21st minute via Trager's assist. The Falcons held a one-nil lead at the halftime break.
Just over a minute into the second half, Trager set the pace for the remainder of the match, scoring an unassisted goal for his third this season. In the 53rd minute, junior midfielder Luke Hill saw an opportunity to connect with Trager, assisting him on his second goal of the match, fourth of the year.
Spadafora put the final strike away two minutes later in the 55th minute via assist from Dewing, scoring his third goal this season while Dewing was credited with his second assist of the season.
Next up, Air Force travels to Houston, Texas, to take on Houston Baptist, Sunday (Oct. 3), at 2:30 p.m. CT. Due to rain and poor field conditions in Houston, the match has been moved to the turf field at the Emory Weiner School. A stream will not be available for the match.
