Air Force Falls in OT, 1-0

IRVINE, Calif. – After 98 hard fought minutes on the pitch, California Baptist netted a golden goal to beat Air Force in overtime, 1-0, Saturday evening at Championship Soccer Stadium. The Falcons drop 8-7-1 overall with a 7-3 record in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lancers improved to 11-3-3 with a 6-2-2 mark in the league.
The final strike came in the 98th minute as Bryan Iliohan put the ball top left off the right foot via assist from Jordan Lane.
Air Force senior Tristan Trager led the offense, taking four-of-nine total shots on the evening. CBU outshot Air Force on the match, 16-9; however, the squads were neck-and-neck in shots on goal as both teams maintained four shots on target through regulation play.
Falcon goalie Kainoa Likewise, and his counterpart Gage Rogers, notched four saves apiece. Three Air Force defenders, London Aghedo, Tyler Johnson, and Jake Chaffetz clocked all 98 minutes of action while team captain Giuliano Daniel and Trager played every minute in the midfield and offensive side of the pitch.
Next up, Air Force welcomes WAC heavyweight GCU for Senior Day, Saturday, November 6. Action is slated for 1 p.m. at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The last time the Falcons and Lopes met was in the WAC Championship match where sixth-seeded Air Force upended top-seeded GCU, 3-0.
Current Defense Department and Air Force Academy rules require all individuals to wear a mask inside Academy facilities. All individuals who have not been fully vaccinated must wear masks outside on military installations.
