Air Force will send approximately 20 runners to the meet in Colorado Springs.
Members of the Air Force cross country team will stay close to home this weekend, as they race against several regional-area squads at the UCCS Open in Colorado Springs on Friday (Oct. 8) night. The Falcons, whose lineup includes the 30th-ranked men's team, will compete in their second Colorado-based meet of the season, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
MEET INFORMATION
The UCCS Open will take place at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course (1850 Tuskegee Place) in Colorado Springs on Friday, Oct. 8. The women will open the non-scoring meet with a 6K race at 5:00 p.m., while the men will follow with an 8K race at 5:40 p.m. (MT). Timing will be provided by Heartland Timing.
WHO'S WHO
The non-scoring meet will feature runners from several regional schools, including Air Force and its conference counterparts from Colorado State and Wyoming. Runners from Colorado College, Colorado Mines, Colorado Mountain College, MSU Denver, Regis, St. Mary Nebraska (women) and host UCCS will round out the field. Air Force (No. 30 men) and Colorado State (No. 21 women) are both listed in the latest USTFCCCA Division I rankings, while Colorado Mines (No. 2 men, No. 4 women), and UCCS (No. 6 women, No. 13 men) are listed in the latest USTFCCCA Division II rankings.
HISTORY 101
(Then) junior Konrad Steck finished second by just 0.2 seconds during the last UCCS Open, which was held at Monument Valley Park in 2019. Steck, one of eight runners to better the previous Course Record, led the Falcons to six of the top 10 finishes in the 126-runner race.
MEN DEBUT IN USTFCCCA TOP 30
The men debuted in the top 30 of the USTFCCCA Division I National Coaches' Poll on Oct. 5 – capturing its first national ranking of the year. The Falcons, who received votes during the first four polls of the year, tied with Charlotte for 30th (22 points). It is the 36th-straight week that Air Force's men have been mentioned in the national conversation (either ranked or receiving votes) – a program-best streak that dates back to the opening poll of the 2017 season.
THE NEXT COURSE
The Falcons are back in action next Friday (Oct. 15), as they travel to Madison, Wis., for the prestigious Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course.
