Eight different Falcons combined for 211 yards rushing, including Brad Roberts, who totaled 140 yards on a career-high 33 carries, including a first-quarter touchdown. QB Haaziq Daniels didn't attempt a pass until the third quarter, but in the second-half the junior signal-caller managed to complete 7 of 10 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 23 yards on nine carries. Brandon Lewis led the Falcons in receiving with five catches for a career-best 77 yards.
The Falcons defense gave the Cowboys fits for most of the evening, as Vince Sanford, Demonte Meeks, and Jordan Jackson each recorded a sack. Sanford also forced two fumbles and managed a recovery of his own.
As a unit, John Rudzinski's defense allowed only 257 total yards, with the Cowboys being held to 3-12 on third down conversions. Wyoming QB Sean Chambers completed just 39% of his pass attempts (11-28).
Air Force opened the game with a 15-play, 75-yard drive that saw Roberts rush into the endzone from the one-yard line. The score marked his seventh rushing touchdown of 2021, as he has now eclipsed 100 yards six times in 10 career games.
Following an Air Force fumble on their second possession, Wyoming's second drive coincidentally ended after a fumble, placing the Falcons offense on the Cowboys 38-yard line. The home team proceeded to use 11 plays and over six-minutes of clock before Dane Kinamon plunged over the goal line for a two-yard touchdown.
The second quarter ended in Wyoming's favor, as the Cowboys scored two touchdowns in a span of 2:24 to bring the game level into the halftime break.
The Falcons did not allow the sudden momentum to shift however, as Air Force held Wyoming to only 82 yards in the second-half. The Falcons outscored the Cowboys 10-0 in the final 30 minutes, with Daniels finding Micah Davis along sideline for a 13-yard touchdown pass midway through the 3rd quarter. Anthony Rodriguez's 26-yard field goal with 7:18 remaining in regulation was the only score of the fourth quarter.
After Rodriguez's third made kick of 2021, the Air Force defense forced a three-and-out, allowing the Falcon offense to relinquish three more minutes off of the clock.
The Cowboys, trailing 24-14 with 2:42 remaining, gained a quick 38-yards on two pass plays, reaching the Air Force 25-yard line. However, three-consecutive incompletions created by the Air Force secondary forced Wyoming into a 4th & 10 with just under a minute and a half remaining. Chambers was pressured and forced to scramble when Sanford forced and recovered his second created fumble of the evening, essentially putting the game out of reach.
Air Force (5-1, 2-1 MW) is now off to its best start since 2010, when the Falcons started 6-1. Next for Air Force is a matchup with Boise State in Idaho. The time of kickoff is still to be announced.
