USAF ACADEMY – Air Force head lacrosse coach Bill Wilson has announced the 2022 lacrosse schedule, Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons, now a part of the newly minted ASUN Conference, get the season underway in late January, when they travel to the annual exhibition with Notre Dame, January 22.
"We are excited to release the 2022 schedule which brings six teams to Falcon Stadium for our Air Force and Colorado Springs fans," exclaimed Wilson. "Our team made good strides this fall and are eager for our first exhibition January 22, in preparation for our season opener."
Air Force's early season will see a quartet of perennial powerhouses. Following the exhibition at Notre Dame, the Falcons will take on North Carolina (Jan. 29), in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for a second preseason exhibition. Air Force opens the regular season with a trip to Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on 2021 National Champions, Virginia (Feb. 5). The Falcons return to the Box State to take on in-state rivals, Denver, on February 12.
Air Force brings six opponents to Falcon Stadium, with the home-opener being played against Canisius, February 26. Other visiting opponents include Jacksonville, Marist, Utah, Cleveland State, and wraps up with Senior Day against ASUN opponent, Bellarmine, April 30.
The Falcons' non-conference road trips include Colgate (Feb. 19), Bryant (Mar. 12), Mercer (Mar. 19), and Marquette (Mar. 26).
"The competition early in the season will prepare us for our ASUN schedule which we are thrilled to be a part of in 2022," Wilson continued. "Our goal is to play our best lacrosse as we head into conference play, and then to keep sharpening as we approach May."
The ASUN Conference announced the formation of ASUN Men's Lacrosse prior to the beginning of last season. This is the second time in nine years that the ASUN has built a new Men's Lacrosse conference. The league announced a new group of six that includes Air Force, Bellarmine, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Robert Morris, and Utah. Air Force's conference slate starts off with Utah at USAFA (Apr. 2).
The league tournament will be played in neutral Huntsville, Alabama, May 5-7.
The Falcons say so long to the Southern Conference after spending six seasons as an affiliate of the league. In their short tenure with the SoCon, the Falcons won three regular season titles and a pair of tournament championships in 2016 and 2017.
