Falcons hold down Rangers in 60-46 win

USAFA, Colo.- On brand for Air Force, the Falcons leaned on their defensive activity, holding Regis to only 32% from the field in Thursday's 60-46 win.
Briana Autrey-Thompson led all players with 20 points, as the guard was nearly perfect from the field, making 8-9 field goal attempts. Autrey-Thompson also managed three steals, sharing the team-high with Kamri Heath. Cierra Winters posted a career-high 17 points on 7-15 shooting, including seven rebounds. Jo Huntimer played a career-high 33 minutes on Thursday, and was a key distributor of the basketball for Air Force, dishing out a personal-best six assists to lead all players.
Air Force was given a sturdy test by the visiting Rangers, though the Falcons again relied upon their ability to create chaos on the defensive end of the floor. Entering Thursday, Air Force ranked 7th in Division I in steals per game, creating 13.8 per game. True to form, the Falcons forced 19 turnovers, including 14 steals, and outscored Regis 17-10 in regards to points created off of turnovers.
The sailing was not so smooth over the first 20 minutes of play, with Air Force shooting only 31% in the first-half. The Falcons eventually carried a 26-25 lead into the halftime break.
Even so, the Falcons play was much more crisp as the game unraveled. Coach Gobrecht's squad shot 52% over the final 20 minutes, while limiting Regis to a 36% mark in that same span. Autrey-Thompson and Winters combined for 25 of Air Force's 34 second-half points.
Next, Air Force will take on undefeated Long Beach State on Sunday, December 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm MT.
