Jones, Falcons overwhelm Aggies, notch first MW win

LOGAN, Utah- Led by a career-performance from Haley Jones, Air Force picked up its first conference win of the season, blitzing Utah State to a 65-52 win.
Jones stole the show underneath the rim, scoring a career-high 19 points while snagging 15 rebounds, also a career-best. Of her 15 rebounds, 10 of which came on the offensive end of the floor. Her performance marks the second-career double-double for Jones, the other taking place against San Jose State on January 26, 2019. She also chipped in with three steals and a pair of assists.
Three other Falcons ended their afternoons in double-figures, those being Riley Snyder (14 pts.), Kamri Heath (10 pts.) and Cierra Winters (10 pts.). Snyder was 6-13 from the field including 2-5 from beyond the arc, while Heath and Winters combined to make 9-16 shots from within the arc. Heath made her first start of the season with Winters again pestering the opposing team on offense, sharing the team lead with Jones to manage three steals.
Air Force appeared to be the more cohesive and composed side, outscoring Utah State 24-7 in points off turnovers. Friday becomes the third game this season that the Falcons have managed more assists than turnovers, as Air Force has now won all three games when such has occurred. Jo Huntimer led the Falcons with five assists, as the freshman remains atop the team leader board with a 1.4 assist/turnover ratio. As well, Chris Gobrecht's team tallied 17 offensive rebounds, aiding Air Force to a 21-8 advantage in second-chance points.
Things did not start so smoothly for the Falcons, as the Aggies jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first five and a half minutes of the first quarter. Air Force rode out the early storm, proceeding to outscore Utah State 30-10 over the remainder of the first-half. The Falcons held the Aggies to only eight points in the second quarter, carrying a 37-25 lead into halftime.The Falcons led by as much as 20 (59-39) early in the fourth quarter, while Air Force's lead never dipped under 10 throughout the second half.
Next, Air Force returns to Clune Arena for the first time since December 8 to play UNLV on January 6. A "Pack The House" game, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm MT.
