The 47 game slate includes 36 conference games and 20 home games
USAFA, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy baseball team and Head Coach Mike Kazlausky announced its 2021 schedule, Monday, Feb. 1. The Falcons will play a 47 game slate, which includes 20 games at home at Falcon Field, as well as 36 Mountain West Conference games.
"I am very excited about this upcoming season, but this is by far the toughest schedule that I have put together in the past 10 years," Head Coach Mike Kazlausky exclaimed. "I am looking forward to our Cadets competing this spring 'on the friendly fields of strife' as we continue to prepare our next generation of war fighters. We are all in challenging times, but we will make sure that we compete at the highest of levels, while also ensuring that we are doing so in a safe and healthy manner."
The season kicks off with a three-game set down in Baton Rouge, La. at historic Alex Box Stadium. The 2021 season opener will come against former AF coaching legend Paul Mainieri and his nationally ranked LSU Tigers, Feb. 19. Then AF will play a pair of non-conference games against Louisiana Tech, Feb. 20, and Notre Dame, Feb. 21.
Air Force then only has eight other non-conference games, as the non-conference season has been severely reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of those series includes the Freedom Classic against Army West Point down in Kinston, N.C., March 5-7. The games will be played at Grainger Stadium, home of the Down East Wood Ducks who are the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers.
The only mid-week games of the season will come at home against the Kansas Jayhawks, April 13-14. The final non-conference series will come against Dallas Baptist down in Texas, April 16-18.
Mountain West Conference play has been extended this season to include 36 games in total in a double round-robin home/away format taking place over 14 weeks. Three-game series are scheduled for Saturday (doubleheader) and Sunday, except for Easter weekend and the final weekend, which will be played on Friday (doubleheader) and Saturday.
Air Force's games with its conference rivals will be as follows:
Fresno State: Home (May 28-29), Away (April 10-11)
Nevada: Home (April 24-25), Away (April 2-3)
New Mexico: Home (May 8-9), Away (Feb. 27-28)
San Diego State: Home (March 20-21), Away (May 22-23)
San Jose State: Home (May 15-16), Away (March 13-14)
UNLV: Home (March 27-28), Away (May 1-2)
The 2021 MW Baseball Tournament has been canceled, meaning the regular-season champion will be the Mountain West's NCAA Tournament automatic qualifier.
As of now there will be no fan attendance permitted at Air Force home games due to local and USAFA health guidelines, but changes may be made during the season. There will be a live stream on the MW Network, as well as live stats for each of the 20 home contests.
