Falcon Lacrosse Drops Season Opener, 15-6

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force dropped the season opener against No. 10/5 Denver, 15-6, Saturday evening in the Academy's Holaday Athletic Center. Denver improved to 2-2 on the season with the Falcons' first loss.
Air Force was led in scoring by August Johnson and Ethan Grandolfo who netted two goals apiece. Brenden Crouse and Chase Douglas rounded out the scoring effort for the Falcons.
Senior captain Braden Host had his hands full in goal, making 17 saves against 32 Pioneer shots on frame. Host put his long-ball ability on display in the first quarter, sending cross-field passes that led to goals on two occasions. Host and Johnson led the squad with two assists each.
Quincy Peene, Crouse and Grandolfo led the Falcons in shooting with seven shots each, Peene and Crouse both put four shots on goal. Air Force put up 25 shots on the night, 17 on goal.
Senior long stick middie Sterling Ceshker led the squad with five ground balls while Host picked up three. Freshman Chris Bardak led Air Force with a pair of caused turnovers while Crouse, Carlile, Host, Ceshker and Collin O'Brien all tallied a caused turnover.
It was a tough day for Air Force at the face off dot as the Falcons won just six of 24 attempts. Dylan Frankhouser claimed the lion's share for Air Force with four wins at the x. Denver's Alec Stathakis won 17-of-21 attempts taken at the face off dot.
Denver was led by Ethan Walker's five goals and two assists. He took 13 shots on the game, eight of which were on cage. The Pios' key facilitator was Jackson Morrill with four assists and a pair of goals.
Next up, Air Force remains at the U.S. Air Force Academy to play host to Utah, Saturday, Feb. 20. The Falcons and Utes will face off at high noon in Falcon Stadium. Both Air Force and Utah have agreed to join the newly founded ASUN lacrosse league beginning in the 2022 season.
