Falcons Split Cincinnati Spring Showdown

Zach Phillips was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Air Force boxing team split the afternoon at the Cincinnati Fitness and Boxing Spring Showdown on March 20, tallying five victories from its 10-bout card. Junior Zach Phillips was named the team's Boxer of the Week after earning a 145-pound victory over Jacob Maslyk from Cincinnati Fitness and Boxing.
The men also accounted for two victories over opponents from the Mountaineer Boxing Academy. Sophomore Tyler Dalzell caused the referee to stop his bout with CJ Brown in the third round, while senior Luke Kilianski earned a decision over Tristenn Cochran in the 175-pound contest.
On the women's side, junior Sam Thompson earned the victory at 145 pounds, after forcing the referee into halting her bout with Iowa State's McKenzie Stewart in the third round, and senior Sharina Stayton decisioned Sarah Stoner of CFB to win the 125-pound bout.
Five other Falcons also took part in the Showdown, with three suffering losses to boxers from the CFB. Junior Maddie Lloyd dropped a 140-pound contest on the women's side to Cleopatria Steward, while classmate Ayaz Mustafa (150 pounds, Nathan Todd) and freshman Josh Payton (139 pounds, John Laughlin) lost their respective bouts on the men's side. Junior Alan Manzo lost his 156-pound decision to Brayden Lial of the Mountaineer Boxing Academy and sophomore Alan Long was decisioned by North Carolina's Aaron Rodriguez in the 172-pound bout.
