Air Force Drops Regular Season Finale, 69-58

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force came up short against Nevada in the regular-season finale, 69-58, Thursday evening in Clune Arena. The Falcons finalize the regular-season campaign at 7-17 overall with a 4-14 mark in the league. Nevada concluded their regular season at 13-8, 9-7 MW.
Air Force had three scorers in the double-figures, led by Riley Snyder with 16 on 33-percent shooting from the field. Briana Autrey-Thompson scored 14 with six assists and three steals while Kaelin Immel dropped 12 points with three rebounds.
Freshman guard Kayla Pilson led the squad with seven rebounds. Senior forward Kassady Huffman tallied four points and two blocks on the evening.
Nevada had four players score in the double-digits, led by Da'Ja Hamilton's 17 points and nine rebounds.
Nevada got up on Air Force early, building as much as a 12-point lead in the waning seconds of the first quarter. The Falcons were getting beat on the boards, 12-5, and turned the rock over six times in the opening 10 minutes. Air Force changed the energy in on the court with a four-point run to close the quarter trailing, 20-12.
Nevada maintained the pace of play well into the second quarter, holding a 10-point cushion through the media timeout (3:30). Freshman Kam Jones entered the game during timeout and made an impact down low, scoring a bucket, denying a shot and snagging a board by the close of the quarter. At the halftime horn, Nevada led Air Force, 37-26. Both teams were shooting well in the first half, knocking down over 46-percent from the field, the difference was Nevada was able to get the three-pointer fall, hitting four shots from downtown while Air Force was unable connect on any attempts from deep.
Nevada returned to the court hot as they went on a 5-0 scoring run to open the half. Air Force responded with a 7-0 scoring run of their own to narrow the deficit to nine points. The Falcons found themselves in the doldrums thereafter, going scoreless for nearly five minutes as Nevada built a 20-point lead, 57-37.
The Air Force three-ball turned on in the fourth quarter as Immel drained two and Snyder hit one, helping Air Force track Nevada down to a nine-point lead at the media timeout (4:10). The Falcons to put up a valiant defensive effort but were unable to stop the Pack from scoring. At the final horn, Nevada led Air Force, 69-58.
Next up, Air Force travels to Las Vegas for the 2021 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Championships, hosted in the Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas, Nevada. The first round of the tournament is slated for Sunday, March 7, with the championship game being played Wednesday, March 10. Seeding will be announced Saturday, March 6, at the conclusion of regular-season play.
