Women's Soccer Falls in Final Minutes to Colorado College

AF and CC were knotted at 0-0 before the Tigers scored in the 87th minute
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's soccer team dropped the spring 2021 season opener to Mountain West rival Colorado College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon, March 6, at the Lacrosse Practice Field. The match was deadlocked at 0-0 late in the match, but CC was able to score the game winning goal in the 87th minute to steal the win.
Defense ruled the day on both ends of the pitch, as CC was held to four shots on net, while AF tallied a pair. Freshman Jordi Ives, in her Falcon debut, registered two shots, one on frame, while sophomore Faith Lee tallied the other opportunity on net. In goal, senior Danielle Katz registered three saves.
Both teams went without a shot in the first 14 minutes as both offenses felt the opposing defenses out. The shot total in the first half ended up 4-3 in favor of CC as the match went to the half goalless.
Colorado College upped the pressure in the second half, as they ripped three shots early in the period, one for a save, and the other two off the posts. Despite the pressure, AF was able to keep the Tigers off the board.
With the clock winding down, CC got a break down the left side of the field, and a cross into the box found the foot of a Tiger attacker, netting the goal with about three minutes to play. Nothing else materialized offensively for the Falcons in the remaining time, sealing the tough 1-0 defeat.
AF will be back in action next Friday, March 12, for a home contest against the Wyoming Cowgirls. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT.
