Spring 2021 Mountain West Conference Schedule Format
With the 2020 fall season delayed into the spring of 2021, the Mountain West released an abbreviated and altered schedule for the season. The Falcons will play a 10-match Conference-only schedule in a divisional double round-robin format taking place over a six-week period (March 5-April 11).
With the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the MW decided to reduce the schedules to divisional play only, with no non-conference opportunities. A single match will take place on Sat., April 17, at a campus site between the two division winners to determine the Conference automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament.
Home Games Closed to General Public
In consultation with USAFA public health professionals, Air Force is allowing a limited number of player guests for intercollegiate home events. USAFA and all intercollegiate athletic events remain closed to the public.
Last Time Out
Last Saturday's season opener against rival Colorado College ended in a 1-0 defeat off of an 87th minute goal from the Tigers. The Falcons held CC to just four shots on net. AF held opponents to that few of shots in nine of the 18 games in 2019.
2020-21 Falcons
- Air Force returns 16 letterwinners and eight starters from last season, while welcoming in seven freshmen.
- The Falcons have a solid five-member senior class, led by team captains Emma Nelson and Alex Giggie
- Air Force lost just three primary starters from 2019, including team captains Kasey Stavig and Erin Speer.
- The returning letterwiners have combined for 221 starts and 409 games played.
Multiple Team Milestones in 2019
At the conclusion of the 2019 campaign, the Falcons reached a number of program milestones. First, the 10 wins were the most for AF since reaching 11 back in 1999. The five conference wins are the most for an AF team in MW play all-time (since 1999). Air Force clinched a winning record, their first since 1999 and fourth all-time. The 36 goals scored as a team were the most since 2000, and the seven shutouts were the most since 2010.
Potent Offense
The Falcons presented one of the most potent offenses in the Mountain West Conference in 2019. They finished first in the MW in scoring offense, second in points per game, total goals and total points, and third in assists per game and total assists. Her 10 goalkeeper wins are tied for the second-most in a single season in program history.
