Jacksonville Outscores Falcons Lacrosse, 11-5

JACKSONVILLE - Air Force dropped an 11-5 Southern Conference contest against Jacksonville, Saturday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field. The Falcons are now 1-2 in the league with a 2-7 mark overall. The Dolphins remain unbeaten in conference play at 6-4, 3-0 SOCON.
The Falcons played a close game through the first half, never taking the lead but holding Jacksonville from extending past a two-goal advantage. A scoreless Air Force third quarter made the difference for Jacksonville as the Dolphins built a six-goal cushion heading into the fourth quarter. The Falcons put up just on goal in the second half.
Air Force took slightly more shots that JU, 44-41, but the Dolphins fired off one more shot on goal than the Falcons, 22-21. Ethan Grandolfo and Brenden Crouse led the attack effort, taking nine and eight shots, respectively, while both putting five shots on cage. Grandolfo was able to connect on two shots, leading Air Force with a pair of goals. Brandon Dodd, who tallied Air Force's only assist of the game, took seven shots.
Senior team captain Quincy Peene notched a goal on three shots while teammates Brian Michael and Ben Ward rounded out the scoring for Air Force with a goal apiece. Michael had a productive day, winning 8-of-14 attempts at the faceoff X and scoring his first goal of the season in a man-down situation. He rounded out his stat line with five ground balls and a caused turnover.
The Falcons caused 8-of-22 of JU's turnovers, led by Vince Lombardi's three caused turnovers.
Senior goalie Braden Host recorded nine saves in 45 minutes of action. Jason Rose, who played a full quarter, made two saves while allowing one goal.
Jacksonville was led by Matt Stagnitta's hat trick on eight shots. Teammate Evan Tyler converted one goal off a game-high 10 shot attempts. Dolphin keeper Jason Yoquinto made 16 saves to secure the win.
Next up, Air Force returns to the Academy for the first of a two-game home stint, hosting the VMI Keydets, Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. MT, in Falcon Stadium. Air Force is 14-1 in the all-time series with VMI; the Falcons have not lost to the Keydets since 2014.
