Lightning in the area forced the postponement of all running events until tomorrow.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Air Force track and field team completed half of its scheduled action at the NCAA West Preliminary this afternoon (May 28), before severe weather rolled into College Station, Texas, and forced the postponement of the men's running events until tomorrow.
Prior to the delay - when the weather was still hot and sunny, junior Jake Hall posted a clearance of 6'9" – his second-best height of the year – to tie for 29th in the opening round of the high jump, while sophomore Hayden Bullock registered a distance of 1716" to finish 37th in the discus throw.
The first lightning delay went into effect at 5:15 p.m. – just minutes before the first running event was scheduled to start at E.B. Cushing Stadium – and continued over the next three hours. With the strikes becoming more frequent and the rain increasing, the decision was made at 8:30 p.m., to postpone the running events until Saturday.
Air Force closes out the NCAA West Prelim tomorrow (May 29), as sophomores Sam Gilman (1500-meter run) and Aidan Boyle (3000-meter steeplechase) complete the races that were scheduled for tonight and newly-commissioned 2Lt Mahala Norris runs in the 3000-meter steeplechase. (an updated schedule of events has not yet been released – as of 10:15 p.m.).
