No. 7 Air Force travels to UTEP

This Week: Seventh-ranked Air Force (8-3 overall) travels to El Paso, Texas, for a dual against UTEP, Saturday, Jan. 29, at 8 am MT. Live scoring will be available at MegaLink.
Earlier This Season: Air Force opened the 2021-22 season with a win over UTEP, 4714-4532, Oct. 30, at the Cadet Rifle Range. Air Force won both the smallbore (2336-2230) and air rifle (2378-2302) and the aggregate score was a season high. Sophomore Peninah D'Souza led the way with an aggregate score of 1176. Fellow sophomore Morgan Kreb was second overall (1175) while junior Jordan Williams was third (1173). Senior Devin Schwindt shot an 1171 for fourth place, followed by freshman Scott Rockett (1170) senior Ryan Habeck (168) and freshman Lauren Hurley (1162).
Last Week: Air Force lost a pair of duals to No. 2 Alaska, Jan. 22-23, in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Nanooks won the first day, 4759-4714, and the second day, 4747-4707. Air Force's 4714 on the first day tied the season high. On Saturday, junior Jordan Williams led the Falcons with a career best aggregate score of 1182 (586-596). Scott Rockett posted an 1177, Peninah D'Souza had an 1176 and Lauren Hurley had an 1173. Rockett led the team with a 597 in air rifle followed by Williams with a 596. In smallbore, Williams led the way with a career best 586. On Sunday, Rockett was the top Falcon in aggregate score with an 1183. He placed fifth overall. Senior Peter Fiori was seventh overall with a season-high 1179, followed by Morgan Kreb (1173) and Lauren Hurley (1171). Rockett placed second in the air rifle 598, followed by Lauren Hurley with a career high 597 and Morgan Kreb with a season-high 594. Fiori was the top Falcon in smallbore, sixth overall, with a 586, followed by Rockett (585) and Devin Schwindt (581).
Top Shooters: Freshman Scott Rockett holds the team's top aggregate score of 1186 against Army, Nov. 7. Rockett and senior Devin Schwindt each have the team's top smallbore score of 587. Sophomore Peninah D'Souza has the team's best air rifle score with her perfect 600 at Nebraska, Nov. 20.
On the Horizon: Following the UTEP dual, Air Force hosts the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 5-6. Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, will compete for the conference title against No. 2 Alaska, No. 4 TCU, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 11 Nebraska and UTEP. TCU won the title in 2020. Air Force won the title in 2019.
NCAA Championships at USAFA: The Air Force Academy will host the 2022 NCAA Rifle Championships, March 11-12. The Championship will conclude on Saturday, March 12, in Clune Arena. The co-ed tournament features the top eight NCAA rifle teams, along with the next highest scoring individuals that are not part of the competing teams. Teams and individuals are invited to compete based on qualifications that conclude in February. The NCAA Rifle Championship was established in 1980 and this season marks the third time the Academy has hosted (1996 and 2006).Kentucky won the 2021 NCAA Championship, hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, while Air Force finished eighth.
